Ally McBeal, the hit series of the late 90s, is about to return to the small screen as revealed by Deadline.

According to the information of the American media, this sequel will focus on a young black woman freshly graduated from law school who joins the law firm of the original series. This young woman could be the daughter of Renee, Ally’s former roommate who was played by Lisa Nicole Carson.

This project, still in development, will be written by Karin Gist (Our Kind of People, Grey’s Anatomy) who will also be showrunner and executive producer. Deadline specifies that David E. Kelley, creator of the original series, will not be involved in this sequel but that he would have given his blessing to ABC and the new creative team.

Calista Flockhart, the actress who played Ally McBeal, has reportedly been approached to take over her role and act as a producer. At the moment, the actress has not given an answer to this proposal. It is not specified if other actors and actresses of the original series are expected in the casting of this sequel of Ally McBeal.
