Netflix’s interest in Korean productions shows no signs of waning, as evidenced by the start of production on two new feature films: Dochabi, a historical action film, and Two Cops and Five Kids, a family comedy that blends action and humor.
Kim Do-hoon and Jun Jong-seo to Star in Dochabi
Directed by Ahn Tae-jin (The Night Owl), Dochabi follows Tae-san (Kim Do-Hoon), a former soldier who lives in hiding in the mountains with Ahai (Jun Jong-seo), a Jurchen woman, near a border region where farmers have settled. When Commander Yi Do-gwan (Lee Joon-gi) sets out in pursuit of them, Tae-san decides to come to their aid and gradually becomes known as Dochabi, a reference to the goblin in Korean mythology.
Written by Hwang Sung-goo, best known for The King’s Warden, the film also features Lee Sang-yi and Bae In-Hyuk, two other familiar faces to K-drama fans.
A family comedy starring Cha Tae-hyun and Uhm Ji-won
With Two Cops and Five Kids, Netflix is changing gears and focusing this time on a family comedy that blends action and humor.
The film follows Dong-sik (Cha Tae-hyun), a police officer and father of five who finds himself alone in managing his family when his wife, Kyun-ah (Uhm Ji-won), a former elite police officer, is called back into the field for a secret mission. As he tries to prepare for an exam to earn a promotion while fulfilling his role as a father, the whole family finds itself caught up in an operation aimed at taking down a criminal organization.
Directed by Kim Jong-hyun (Priest), the feature film will also star Do Young-seo, Kim Na-eun, Jung Han-sol, Sim Ji-an, and Kim Ra-hee, who will play Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and April, respectively—the five children of Dong-sik and Kyun-ah.
As of this writing, Netflix has not announced a release date for either of these two films.
