Despite a limited success at the box office, Mortal Kombat, the movie by Simon McQuoid, has done very well on HBO Max. Enough to guarantee a sequel as confirmed by Deadline.

The American media informs us that New Line has decided to give the script of this project to Jeremy Slater, writer and showrunner of Moon Knight, the next Marvel series of Disney+.

No details on the plot have been released, but the end of the first movie indicated that Cole Young (Lewis Tan) had to go in search of new champions to defend the Earth. One of the final scenes teased the possible appearance of Johnny Cage. The second opus should be the opportunity to see one of the most popular characters of the games. The famous tournament at the core of the video game saga (which was absent from the first movie) could also be at the center of the story in this sequel.

Deadline specifies that no member of the previous cast has yet been officialized for this sequel. It is not known either if Simon McQuoid will be back behind the camera.
