Since a few months, there’s a rumor going on and Warners Bros. Pictures just confirmed it : Joaquin Phoenix will be playing the Joker, Batman’s nemesis. In this movie, presented as a stand-alone, Todd Phillips will be going back on the origins of this super-vilain with Joaquin Phoenix as the lead role. It’ll be the first apparition in the super-hero world for the 43 years old actor, who’s already been nominated 3 times for Oscars, for his roles in The Master, Walk the Line and Gladiator.
Presented by the studio as an “original and independent story”, Todd Phillips‘ movie, focused on the Joker, will be much darker than the DCEU movies and will not be considered as a part of this universe. The budget for the movie should be of 55 million dollars, no need to say it’s clearly less than for other DCEU productions.
No release date has been announced yet but we already know that the filming will be starting at the end of the year. We just have to hope to see a release before the end of 2019.
