Fifteen years after its release, the animated film How to Train Your Dragon is about to get a live-action remake. The film, directed by Dean DeBlois and due for release in June 2025, has been unveiled in a trailer that is very (too?) faithful to the original.

In this video, which lasts just over a minute, Dreamworks introduces us to Hiccup (Mason Thames), a young Viking warrior from the island of Berk who goes against the traditions of his people by refusing to kill dragons and befriending one of them, Toothless, a fearsome Night Fury dragon. The official synopsis for the new feature film says: “With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (Nico Parker) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.”

The trailer unveiled by the studio also gives us a glimpse of Gerard Butler as Stoick The Vast, the character he voiced in the How to Train Your Dragon animated films.

The cast also includes Julian Dennison (Fishlegs), Gabriel Howell (Snotlout), Bronwyn James (Ruffnut) and Harry Trevaldwyn (Tuffnut). You can get a first glimpse of these characters in a video released by Universal Pictures.
