A few months after announcing the names of the actor and actress who will play Harold and Astrid, How To Train Your Dragon is adding another name to the cast of its live-action adaptation. Let’s take a look.

A successful animated trilogy, How To Train Your Dragon will soon return to the big screen in the form of a live-action movie. To bridge the gap between the two projects, the production team has decided to cast Gerard Butler, an actor who knows the world well.

As revealed by Deadline, the British actor will play Stoick, Harold’s father, in Universal’s live-action film. A role he knows well, having voiced the same character in Dean DeBlois‘ animated films. Fans of the original trilogy will be delighted, and can look forward to the return of other voice actors in this adaptation.

Directed, written and produced by Dean DeBlois, How To Train Your Dragon will see Gerard Butler joined by Mason Thames (Black Phone) and Nico Parker (Dumbo) as Harold and Astrid respectively.

How to Train Your Dragon, originally scheduled for release on March 14, 2025, has been pushed back to June 13, 2025. The delay was necessitated by the actors’ strike, which affected the start of filming.
