The 2019 Cannes Film Festival: the prize list

On May 25th, the 72nd Cannes Film Festival enclosed on a high note with the win of the Palme d’Or by Bong Joon-Ho for his movie “Parasite”. Let’s go back to the list of prizewinners who did not please everybody.

Terrence Malick, Ken Loach and Quentin Tarantino left the Croisette empty-handed, with the exception of “Palm dog” awarded to Brad Pitt’s dog who played in “Once Upon Time in Hollywood“.

The unmissable prices

On the contrary, others shone with their talent. Director Bong Joon-Ho won the Palme d’Or for his film “Parasite”, which will be released in French cinemas on June 5th. Meanwhile, the director of “Portrait of the girl on fire” Cécile Sciamma has received the screenplay award. As for Ladj Ly, he won the jury prize for “Les Misérables”. The Grand Prix was awarded to director Mati Diop for her movie “Atlantic”. The distribution rights of the movie have been bought by the Netflix platform, a double dedication.

The actors not outdone

As for the actors, Antonio Banderas was awarded with the best actor prize for his role in Pedro Almodovar‘s movie “Pain and Glory”. On the women’s side, Emily Beecham stood out and received the best actress’s award for her role in Jessica Hausner’s movie “Little Joe”. Note that the Caméra d’Or prize was given to “Nuestra madres” by César Diaz and a Special Mention was awarded to Elia Suleiman for “It must be heaven”.
