All Janeites will be thrilled to learn that Jane Austen’s six novels will be adapted into a TV series with a twist: the stories will be made into modern times. A daring idea that we owe to the American network The CW, which will produce it.

The work of Jane Austen is timeless. Her novels are being reissued over and over again, and many adaptations have been made, both for the small and the big screen. And it is far from being over! The American network The CW has just announced the adaptation into a TV series of the six novels of the English author. These novels will be put together with the title “Modern Austen” and will be translated to our time.

One season, one novel

“Emma”, “Sense and Sensibility”, “Mansfield Park”, “Pride and Prejudice”, “Northanger Abbey” and “Persuasion” will thus experience the most daring revival. Each season will focus on one of the six stories. “Pride & Prejudice” should mark the beginning of the story under the sun of San Francisco. Eleanor Burgess, to whom we owe “Perry Mason”, will be responsible for writing and directing this anthology. The question now is whether the fans will be seduced by this modernization or, on the contrary, end up being disappointed.
