Nomadland, grand favori de la cérémonie des Oscars 2021, est reparti comme prévu avec plusieurs prix à commencer par celui tant convoité du meilleur film. Le long-métrage obtient également l’Oscar de la meilleure réalisatrice (Chloé Zhao) et celui de la meilleure actrice (Frances McDormand). Cette dernière est couronnée pour la troisième fois dans cette catégorie.
Les Oscars 2021 ont également été l’occasion de voir Anthony Hopkins remporter son second Oscar du meilleur acteur, trente ans après celui obtenu pour sa prestation dans Le Silence des agneaux. L’Académie a, cette fois-ci, salué son interprétation dans le film The Father du français Florian Zeller. Le long-métrage repart avec un autre award, celui du meilleur scénario adapté.
La cérémonie 2021 a aussi été marquée par une grande première. Quelques jours après avoir remporté un BAFTA Award, Yuh-Jung Youn a obtenu l’Oscar de la meilleure actrice secondaire et devient ainsi la première actrice sud-coréenne à être récompensée aux Oscars.
