While Netflix officially announced in mid-November that Shadow and Bone would not be renewed and that plans for a spin-off based on the Six of Crows would be cancelled, fans are refusing to see the series based on Leigh Bardugo‘s books come to an end. Using the hashtags #SaveShadowAndBone and #SaveTheCrows, fans are mobilizing on social networks to ask for a 3rd season and a spin-off based on the Six of Crows.
In addition to the hashtag and the creation of accounts on various social networks, several actions have been launched to try to see a new season of Shadow and Bone and a spin-off:
- A Kickstarter to raise money to show Netflix their motivation by renting a billboard in Los Angeles (and then in front of Netflix offices, if fundraising allows): “we reject this abrupt and heartbreaking end. For the cast, for the crew, for all of us that love this world and these characters, we will fight to see this story on screen,” reads the description of the crowdfunding campaign.
So far, the 8,000 euro mark has been surpassed, with almost 400 contributors. - There is also a petition online that has collected nearly 170,000 signatures since it was launched on November 16: “This is a petition to gain attention of other streaming services, such as Amazon, Hulu, HBO, or any other streaming services so we can receive the third season like we deserve. Warrior Nun has done it; the Grishaverse is as large and passionate, and we can do it too. PLEASE SIGN so we get the season 3 and spin-off we deserve!”
Enough to convince Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO or others to continue the series and create a spin-off? Only time will tell.
