The hit BBC show Peaky Blinders has been off air for almost two years now, when the cliff-hanger finale of its fifth season aired. The sixth—and final—season is expected to air near the end of 2021 or the start of 2022. But what can we expect?

What is Peaky Blinders About?

Peaky Blinders is about a gang of the same name, who operated in the early 20th century in Birmingham, UK. Although in real life the gang mostly ran gambling operations (this was a long time before you could just log on to sites like www.spincasino.com for a flutter!), the fictional gang runs a huge enterprise and even rubs shoulders with politicians like Winston Churchill.

The show chronicles the gang’s rise to power, and the most recent season ended with them facing threats from villains such as real-life politician Oswald Mosley, as well as fictional adversaries. So, what predictions can be made about the final season?

1. Tommy Shelby Will Live Another Day

Let’s be honest—the chances of lead protagonist Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) following through with his apparent consideration of suicide seem very unlikely. Although the entire cast of Peaky Blinders is fantastic, and the show would still be great without Cillian Murphy, it seems most likely that the gang’s leader will be there until the very end of the series.

2. Aunt Polly Will Be Commemorated

Polly Gray, the aunt of Tommy, Arthur, and Finn Shelby, was one of the most intriguing and charismatic figures in the show. Unfortunately, actor Helen McCrory passed away earlier this year, which makes it seem most likely that her character will be written out of the show. Whether Aunt Polly passes away or simply moves away, the show is bound to commemorate McCrory’s life and contribution in some way.

3. Oswald Mosley Will Play an Even Bigger Role

The main villain of Season 5 turned out to be real-life British fascist politician Oswald Mosley. After surviving an assassination attempt by the Shelby family, Mosley is bound to play a bigger role in Season 6, and is likely to face off with Tommy at some point. How this confrontation may end is another matter—while Mosley lived until 1980 in real life, this doesn’t necessarily mean his fictional counterpart will be as lucky. After all, Peaky Blinders is known for never letting historical accuracy get in the way of a great story!

4. Michael and Tommy Will Face Off

Tommy’s young cousin Michael (the son of Aunt Polly) became increasingly insubordinate to the Shelby family in the last season, ending in him declaring to his wife Gina that he would openly rebel against the family. Although Michael is less experienced than Tommy, Arthur, and the rest of the Shelbys, he is smart enough to provide a dangerous foe—especially if he strikes a deal with Oswald Mosley!

5. Alfie Solomons Will Return to Birmingham

One of the biggest surprises of last season was the return of fan-favorite character Alfie Solomons, who had been presumed dead for a couple of seasons. The grizzled gangster, played perfectly by mega-star Tom Hardy, usually has unclear motives—although it is certainly likely that he may team up with Tommy against the various enemies the Shelbys have managed to make. Whoever’s side he ends up on, if his past is anything to go by, his return to the battleground of Birmingham is likely to be extremely entertaining!
