While a spin-off centered around Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David is expected on Paramount+, CBS has decided to expand the NCIS universe with a new series dedicated to the youth of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. And we now know the identity of the actor who will embody this iconic TV character. Let’s find out.

The NCIS universe is a successful franchise for CBS, and the network has no intention of letting go of its golden goose anytime soon. While the original series continues to top the ratings, numerous spin-offs have been created over the years. While NCIS spin-offs usually take place in new cities across the U.S., CBS has decided to change the formula for its latest spin-off.

In NCIS: Origins, the network will revisit the youth of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the iconic character played by Mark Harmon in the original series. Set in 1991, the series will follow a young Gibbs as he finds his place among a diverse team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.

In NCIS, young Gibbs was played by Sean Harmon, but this time the character will take on the characteristics of Austin Stowell in the series NCIS: Origins, as confirmed by several American media. The actor recently appeared in Three Women, A Friend of the Family and Keep Breathing. He was previously also in the series Catch-22, Public Morals and The Secret Life of the American Teenager, as well as the films Battle of the Sexes, Colossal, Bridge of Spies and Whiplash.

The series NCIS: Origins, in which Mark Harmon will appear as narrator, will air on CBS in the 2024-2025 season.
