Fans of the Shondaland universe will be happy to hear the good news: Jaina Lee Ortiz and Scott Speedman, who have both appeared in Shonda Rhimes‘s series, will share the spotlight in a new project. You followed Jaina Lee Ortiz for seven seasons in Station 19; now, she joins Scott Speedman in RJ Decker, an actor well known to Grey’s Anatomy fans for his role as Nick Marsh.
Scheduled to air midseason on ABC, RJ Decker was created by Rob Doherty (“Elementary”) and is based on Carl Hiaasen‘s novel “Double Whammy.” The series follows RJ Decker (Scott Speedman), a former press photographer and ex-convict trying to start over as a private investigator in South Florida. Decker can count on his ex-wife, a journalist, her new wife, a police detective, and a mysterious woman from his past, who could be his most valuable ally… or the reason he ends up back in prison.
Jaina Lee Ortiz will play Emi Ochoa, the brilliant but unpredictable daughter of a powerful and corrupt senator whose ties to Decker’s past could disrupt his future. Originally named Shay Bennett, the character was played by Weruche Opia in the pilot but was completely recast after the series was officially ordered.
The main cast will include Scott Speedman, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adelaide Clemens (Rectify) as Catherine Delacroix (Decker’s ex), Kevin Rankin (Claws) as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken (the detective’s former cellmate), and Bevin Bru (Batwoman) as Melody Romero (Catherine’s wife and a detective with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department).
