High School Musical: what does the original cast think of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series ?

While some of the original cast of the High School Musical (HSM) trilogy will be involved in the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (HSMTMTS), HSM guests at the Paris convention Back To The Musical World 2 were asked about their thoughts on Tim Federle‘s series, available on Disney+.

Corbin Bleu, who played Chad, was the first to answer and admits that he was a bit apprehensive when he found out about the project. At the time, he thought that the legacy of the High School Musical trilogy should not be touched, but admits that the HSMTMTS team has done a great job. According to him, the people working on the series really understood what the movies were about and managed to pay tribute to them while developing their own universe. Lucas Grabeel, the actor who plays Ryan, agrees, saying that the series honors the original films, songs and characters while building on the magic that began with the original trilogy.

Bart Johnson, who plays Coach Bolton in the films and will be appearing in the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, initially responded with a touch of humor by saying there weren’t enough basketball scenes. He later added that when he returned to East High, which took place a few weeks ago with Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel, he was very emotional. A feeling shared by Lucas Grabeel who could not help but cry when he returned to the school because every corner reminded him of a song or a memory from the original trilogy.

Kenny Ortega, director of the three High School Musical films, spoke of his pride to see the success of the series, which is already in its fourth season. He even suggested that the cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series should join them at a future Parisian edition of the Back To The Musical World convention. Concerning the actors of the series, Corbin Bleu said that they are all passionate, talented and very nice. Perfect to keep the HSM magic alive.
