FOX has decided to renew two more series for next season: Last Man Standing and The Resident.
The Resident and Last Man Standing at their peak on FOX
After being cancelled by ABC in 2017 after 6 seasons, Last Man Standing has proved to be a hit with FOX viewers. The sitcom starring Tim Allen is the channel’s number one comedy with an average audience of 8 million viewers and ranks in the top 10 comedies on all channels. With the renewal, Last Man Standing will start its ninth season, which will be the third on the FOX channel.
For its part, The Resident drew an average of 10 million viewers during its third season and is ranked in the top 10 dramatic series (all channels combined) on the 18-34 age group, it is therefore not surprising that the channel has renewed the series for a fourth season.
In a press release, FOX recalled that “The Resident and Last Man Standing are such important parts of Fox, and we’re so pleased they will be returning next season”. The network added, “We want to thank all of the writers, actors, directors, producers and talented crews for both of these shows, and, of course, our friends and producing partners at 20th Century Fox Television.”
Outmatched cancelled after one season
As for Outmatched, it failed to convince the network for a second season. The series, starring Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, followed a couple trying to raise four children, three of whom are gifted. On average, the series only attracted 2.3 million viewers over the course of its ten episodes. Far too little for it to be renewed. However, FOX, delighted with the performance of Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, is interested in proposing other projects to the two actors on the channel.
There is only one FOX series that has no defined status yet, and that is Prodigal Son, whose future will be determined once an agreement is reached with Michael Sheen, the actor who plays one of the characters in the series.
