Do you get that Nostalgia vibe? Do VHS and DVR ring any bells to y’all?

Let’s take a trip back to the ’90s and remember the good ole days of the TV industry’s successes. Way back before the internet and streaming were such a big deal. When everything wasn’t there in no time. You got to enjoy things better.

Some people will never understand this. Oh, the feels. Lucky you. Somehow.

What were the TV Shows that resonate so much with the Y generation? According to me, this was my Top 4 TV shows of the ’90s.

Friends (1994-2004)

Photo: NBC

Created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane.
Main Characters: Monica Geller  (Courtney Cox), Joey Tribianni  (Matt LeBlanc), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer)

This is the story of 6 friends living and sharing their everyday lives together in the Big Apple (NYC) to which many adventures will happen. (Love, Break-Ups, Jobs, Parenthood and so on). If not in Monica’s apartment, they often gather together at Central Perk to talk about their happiness, worries and dates. Those characters had been a huge part of America’s heart and always felt welcome in their living room each week for ten years. Everyone could feel so related to at least one of them. It was so easy to not love them, In many ways.

Have you ever felt like what Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Rachel, Ross would do? No matter what the situation would be. I do.

Due to constant high demand and timeless success across the world, the cast gathered together for a lifetime REUNION after 17 years since the series ended. Friends has been the biggest TV show of the ’90s nationwide and worldwide. It gives fans goosebumps seeing them together again at the reunion.

This show always cheers me up whenever I have a bad day and need to have a good laugh.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)

Photo: The WB

Created by Joss Whedon
Main Characters: Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Angel (David Boreanaz), Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), Spike (James Masters), Willow (Alyson Hannigan), Alex (Nicholas Brendon), Giles (Anthony Stewart Head)

It all started when Buffy Summers freshly arrived at Sunnydale she got fired from her previous high school and moved into town with her mom. As she starts to settle as a new junior high student, she is welcomed by Willow and Alex who will become her good friends then Cordelia would come along known as a popular kinda bitchy girl at first. In the meantime, Buffy meets with Giles who is the high school librarian and would be Buffy’s slayer guardian and friend. In fact, Buffy is the chosen one. She is destined to be the new vampire slayer who has to keep the evil forces underground. She will also have a love story with Angel, a half-vampire half human she will be in love with. And helps her in her fight. Then late on she becomes friends with another vampire called Spike who helps to save the human world from the vampire one.

Buffy was a successful hit because for the first time on TV, it was a female lead who took on the show. It was badass, all about girl power but did you know that Buffy was originally a movie?

It has been very successful worldwide and still is through this day to the point where it has a convention dedicated to it.

Full House (1987 – 1995)

Photo: ABC

Created by Jeff Franklin
Main Characters: Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), “DJ” Tanner (Candace Cameron), Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin), Michelle Tanner (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), Kimberly Gibbler (Andrea Barber)

The story of a household located in San Francisco where Danny is a single dad who is trying to raise her 3 girls after his wife Pam suddenly passed away. His best-friend Joey and his brother-in-law Jesse decided to move in with him to help him with the girls.

This is a family show full of humor and rhythm by a very modern dysfunctional family under one roof.

Did you know that the cast and crew were back at it 20 years later on a new show called Fuller House. Not everyone was on board but most of them said a huge yes to be called on the call sheet for fan’s happiness. They catch up where they left off with the original series. It has been a huge success on Netflix.

Charmed (1998-2006)

Photo: The WB

Created by Constance M Burge and Produced by Aaron Spelling
Main Characters: Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty), Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano), Paige Matthews Halliwell (Rose McGowan), Leo Wyatt (Brian Krause), Cole Turner (Julian McMahon), Daryl Morris (Dorian Gregory), Chris Halliwell (Drew Fuller).

The story of 3 sisters who reunited again under one roof at the manor after Grams (grandmother) passed away. They are known as the “Charmed Ones”. The most powerful witches of all time. They are on a mission to kill all demons, save innocents and vanquish the source of all evil. In the meantime they are dealing with their lives in their early 20s.

Aaron Spelling used to say “This is a show about three sisters who happened to be witches not three witches who happened to be sisters”. The family aspect of the show was way more important than the supernatural one. Their main focus was on this. Always.

It was the first show that had 3 female role leads and became the longest female running show of all time in the late ’90s. When the first episode first aired it blew up the WB audience in history for a TV Show first aired episode.

This show’s success and legacy have always touched my heart as I grew up watching this show. Those 3 let alone 4 sisters and actresses have shown to the world that you can be a woman, kick-ass and do anything your mind would set you to do. Again a woman can do and be anything she wants.

And you? What would be your four top shows of the ’90s? Tell us in comments.
