Disney, building on its success in previous live action adaptations, continues to make progress on several projects, including Lilo & Stitch. The animated film released in 2002 may have taken a big step towards a live-action adaptation as Jon M. Chu is reportedly in discussions to direct the film according to Variety. Known for directing Crazy Rich Asians, Jon M. Chu is already engaged with Disney to direct the serial sequel of cult movie Willow.

The adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is still in its early stages as the script has not yet been finalized. A first version written by Mike Van Waes needs to be reworked with the help of new writers. In production, we will find Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich already working on the remake of Aladdin.

As a reminder, the animated film by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders follows Lilo’s adventures, a 6-year-old girl who takes in an alien creature named Stitch.
