Fans of Descendants will soon return to Auradon thanks to Disney+. In a press release, the streaming service revealed that it is working on a sequel to expand the universe imagined by Kenny Ortega.

With the working title The Pocketwatch, the new movie will follow Red, the rebellious and smart teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming. In order to prevent an impending coup in Auradon – which is coming during the new royal baby shower – Red must team up with Chloe to travel back in time with the White Rabbit’s pocket watch and prevent an event that would have serious consequences.

For the moment, the names of the actors and actresses taking part in this new Descendants have not been announced. Will the original cast be involved in the project? The press release does not mention it. However, if you are a fan of the trilogy directed by Kenny Ortega and would like to meet the cast, you should know that some of the actors are attending conventions and will be present at the Back To The Musical World 2. Just like Kenny Ortega!

A scenario described as captivating

Real hit on Disney Channel, the new show will have a lot of work to do to keep the Descendants myth alive. However, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, is confident: “With a captivating script and Jennifer Phang‘s directorial vision, we’re setting a new high bar of creativity and imagination, with a movie that ups the ante on story, song and dance to entertain young viewers, their families, and the global fan base that grew up with the aspirational story of Descendants.

To ensure the success of The Pocketwatch, Disney+ will be able to rely on seven original songs, Disney classics, but also on director Jennifer Phang‘s love of musicals: “Musicals sparked my imagination when I was a kid and are a huge part of what drew me to filmmaking. I think that’s because they have a way of conveying these lovely, nuanced ideas through song and expressive movement. I’m also always inspired by the diversity of families that exist all around the world. So I really jumped at the chance to craft a supercharged musical experience and explore some new, invigorating themes inside an expansive Disney universe.”

The Pocketwatch will begin filming in the fall. No release date has been announced at this time.
