Good news for Scrubs fans: the series is about to make a comeback! ABC is currently developing a reboot of the medical series created by Bill Lawrence, and Zach Braff has officially signed on to reprise his iconic role as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. Let’s take a look.

Scrubs aired on NBC from 2001 to 2008 and on ABC from 2009 to 2010 for its last two seasons. Thanks to its quirky tone, colorful characters, and poignant episodes, the show left its mark on viewers. Fifteen years later, Scrubs remains one of the most beloved comedies on television, so it’s not surprising that a network would be interested in bringing the series back at a time when Hollywood is in the mood for reboots. Moreover, for many years, creator Bill Lawrence and the lead actors had expressed their desire to work together again. Their wish was granted in December 2024 when ABC officially confirmed that a new chapter of Scrubs was in the works.

Until now, Bill Lawrence‘s exclusive commitment to Warner Bros. TV was the main obstacle to the series’ return. However, Disney, the owner of ABC and 20th Television, has reached an agreement that will allow Bill Lawrence to participate in developing this new version of Scrubs.

Zach Braff back, before other iconic Scrubs actors?

In this reboot of Scrubs, Bill Lawrence plans to introduce a new generation of medical interns while featuring familiar characters, beginning with Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. After months of negotiations, Zach Braff has signed on to reprise the role that made him famous.

With Zach Braff‘s casting confirmed, fans hope to see other major actors return, including Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Donald Faison (Turk), John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox), Neil Flynn (The Janitor), and Judy Reyes (Carla), currently starring in ABC’s High Potential.

While we wait to find out who will or won’t be in the cast of this new version of Scrubs, are you happy to see Zach Braff back as John Dorian? Tell us in the comments.
