In May 2020, we talked to you about 4 podcasts to learn more about Scrubs, The Office, The West Wing and The Good Place. One year later, series fans can add the Drama Queens podcast to their list if they want to know more about One Tree Hill, another famous series from the 2000s.
The podcast is based on the work of three actresses who were essential to the success of the series: Hilarie Burton-Morgan, Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz. The actresses who play Peyton, Brooke and Hailey will reflect on their memories of filming the show as they look back on the nine seasons of One Tree Hill. An idea that came to Sophia Bush’s mind at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when she noticed that many people were re-watching the series to keep themselves busy during quarantine: “I was like, this show has something magic about it. It feels really evergreen to so many people.”
For People, Bethany Joy Lenz says, “There’s going to be a lot of candid talk about what we experienced, but we’re not trying to be like Jerry Springer and trash everything. We loved our show. We love what we’re doing now.”
Hilarie Burton-Morgan sees the podcast as a way to take back their work: “what I think is great and what I want to serve as an example is taking back work that is rightfully ours. We put in a lot of work as young people and we’re not responsible for the actions of other people. And so to reclaim that thing that’s ours and that we were excited about when we were 22, 23 years old is an empowering thing to do as a grownup lady now.”
The first episode of Drama Queens is available starting this Monday, June 21, 2021. As the episodes progress, the three actresses are expected to welcome guest stars from One Tree Hill.
