Gabriel Luna, known for his roles in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Terminator: Dark Fate or Wicked City, joins the series adaptation of The Last of Us. He will join Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), cast in the lead roles.

According to Deadline, Gabriel Luna has been cast as Tommy, the younger brother of Joel (Pedro Pascal), a former soldier who has not lost his sense of idealism and still believes that a better world can emerge.

As a reminder, The Last of Us series, based on the hit video game of the same name, will follow Joel, a hardened survivor who is hired to rescue Ellie (Bella Ramsey) from an oppressive quarantine zone. What follows is a particularly brutal journey across the United States where one’s survival depends on the other.

Two new names to direct

If the pilot of this HBO production will be given to Kantemir Balagov (Closeness, Beanpole), The Last of US will be able to count on the presence of two new names to direct: Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi.

Jasmila Žbanić was noticed in 2020 for her film Quo vadis, Aida? nominated at the Oscars and BAFTA Awards. Ali Abbasi, on the other hand, won the “Un certain Regard” award at the Cannes Film Festival for his movie Gräns.

The series is being developed by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann.
