After 3 seasons, the TV show Shadowhunters, an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s novels, is finally canceled by the channel Freeform despite the fans’ strong disagreement.

After a reunion concerning the show with Constantin Films, Shadowhunters‘ producers, Freeform decided that it was time to say goodbye to Clary, Jace and the other shadowhunters, vampires and werewolves of this universe. Apparently Shadowhunters isn’t as popular as it used to be in the beginning and a 4th season wouldn’t be profitable for the channel and the producers.

However, it’s a choice which deeply saddened a lot of people. First of all, the actors who invested themselves in the roles. Katherine McNamara, who played Clary, posted the news on her Instagram account saying that : “Every person who has been a part of Shadowhunters has touched my heart in a way that I cannot even begin to describe. The love this fandom has for the source material, the show, the artists, and for each other is a force to be reckoned with like nothing I have seen before. No matter what happens from here, I promise you this. By the Angel, will make you the most rock solid, bad-ass, magical finale you could imagine.”

The fans, themselves, found it hard to swallow the news. As the actress said, it’s a very loyal fandom and, for this reason, the fans decided to launch a petition on Change.org to save the show’s future, instead of simply accepting the producers’ decision. The numbers of signatures escalated really quickly and, in only 5 days, the petition already had 88,000 signatures.

Season 3 will have 22 episodes total. The first 10 episodes already aired in the USA. In order to end the show and to offer the fans a proper ending, Shadowhunters will have a 2 hours finale cut in 2 episodes. The 12 last epsiodes, including the finale, will be airing around Spring 2019.

Will Shadowhunters be rescued by another channel ? Will we have a 4th season ? Luck isn’t on their side but the fans remains full of hope.
