Remakes continue to appeal to FOX. After officially announcing a new version of Baywatch for the 2026–2027 season, the American network is now working on a revival of Highway to Heaven.

Launched in 1984, the cult series followed Jonathan Smith, an angel played by Michael Landon, sent to Earth to help people in need. Throughout his missions, he could count on the support of Mark Gordon, played by Victor French, a former police officer who became his best friend.

This new adaptation will retain the spirit of the original series while modernizing its concept. The reboot will follow a “probationary angel” sent to Earth to help people in need in order to earn his wings.

Cyndi Landon said she is proud to “help carry Michael’s legacy forward with partners like Fox and Amblin, who understand the heart of this series and are bringing it to a new generation at just the right moment.” She added: “Highway to Heaven has always been about connection, compassion and the idea that small acts can have big ripple effects and make a lasting difference.”

The project will be overseen by Jason Katims, who will serve as showrunner. He said he was “excited by the challenge of putting a contemporary lens on this classic tale.” He adds: “The idea of telling a very grounded, human story about an angel feels immediately emotional to me — and fun. I love going outside my comfort zone to tell a tale about someone trying to do better as an angel than he did as a man”.

We’ll have to wait a while, however, to see this new version of Highway to Heaven, which is expected to air on FOX during the 2027–2028 season. Are you excited about this reboot of Highway to Heaven? Let us know in the comments.
