Just hours after announcing the return dates for its series, CBS has announced that Young Sheldon, the #1 comedy in the U.S., will come to an end at the end of its seventh season. This news will sadden all fans of the Cooper family, but is logical given the chronology presented in The Big Bang Theory.

In fact, in season 7, the character of Sheldon, played by Iain Armitage, will reach his 14th birthday. An age that will bring many changes for the young man as he comes to terms with the death of his father. He will also be moving to California to continue his studies at Caltech.

Following the announcement of Young Sheldon‘s end, Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland said: “Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience. We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”

Iain Armitage, meanwhile, posted on Instagram, “we will make the best 7th season we can possibly make- and behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much.”

Season 7 of Young Sheldon will air from February 15, 2024 on CBS. The one-hour finale episode will air on the network on May 16, 2024.
