S.W.A.T. fans won’t have to wait very long to see Shemar Moore back in the role of Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. S.W.A.T.: Exiles, the spin-off of the police drama series, will premiere on September 25 on the American network STARZ.
In this new series, Hondo will come out of forced retirement to take command of an experimental unit made up of young recruits, played by Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star), Lucy Barrett (Charmed), Freddy Miyares (Grey’s Anatomy), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea), and Adain Bradley (The Bold and the Beautiful). According to the official synopsis, he’ll have to overcome the generational gap separating him from his team, manage personalities that are as unpredictable as they are confrontational, and transform this group of misfits into a unit capable of protecting the city—all while saving the program that made him the police officer he has become.
Fans nostalgic for the original series will also be treated to several reunions. Throughout the season, several familiar faces from S.W.A.T. will return as guest stars. Jay Harrington will reprise his role as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay, while Patrick St. Esprit will return as Commander Robert Hicks. David Lim will also return as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode.
