René Auberjonois, principalement connu pour ses rôles dans Benson et Star Trek, est mort à l’âge de 79 ans des suites d’un cancer. L’information a été révélée par Associated Press puis confirmé par le site officiel de l’acteur.
L’acteur américain a lancé sa carrière en 1964 dans le film Lilith mais c’est en 1970 qu’il a obtenu son premier rôle d’importance en participant au film M.A.S.H.. Par la suite, il enchaîne rôles au cinéma et apparitions à la télévision. En 1980, il rejoint la comédie Benson aux côtés de Robert Guillaume, James Noble, Inga Swenson et Missy Gold. Il y interpréta pendant six ans le personnage de Clayton Runnymede Endicott III. En 1993, il fut casté pour incarner le personnage de Odo, le chef de la sécurité dans la série Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Un rôle pour lequel il participait à de nombreuses conventions à travers le monde. De 2004 à 2008, il tourna avec William Shatner, une autre figure emblématique de Star Trek, pour les besoins de la série Boston Justice.
René Auberjonois fut également une voix incontournable du petit écran américain prêtant sa voix à de nombreux personnages de dessins animés. Il a notamment participé au doublage de Pound Puppies, Xyber 9: New Dawn, The Pirates of Dark Water, Ben 10, Les snorky ou encore Jonny Quest.
