Will the One Day At A Time series be coming back for a fifth season? Nothing could be less certain after Pop decided to cancel the series. Netflix had previously done the same after having released three seasons of the series. However, there is still hope since Sony Pictures TV has decided to offer the series to other channels and platforms. According to Deadline, the studio would have options on the actors’ contracts until the end of December. That means that time is running out.

Despite the rather tight deadline, there seems to be some optimism among the creative team, as can be seen in the tweets from Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce, the creators of the series. Gloria Calderón Kellett stated: “Sadly, the news is out. I’m not sad just yet, y’all. We still have some hope for new homes. Hang tight, my loves. You know that if I go down, I will go down swinging for this show (& cast & crew) I love”. For his part, Mike Royce stated: “We’re still trying for season 5.” We can only hope so for all the people involved in One Day At A Time.

The series, which has won two Emmy Awards and focuses on a Latin American family, has currently 52 episodes. Justina Machado (Penelope Alvarez), Todd Grinnell (Schneider), Isabella Gomez (Elena Alvarez), Marcel Ruiz (Alex Alvarez), Stephen Tobolowsky (Dr. Leslie Berkowitz) and Rita Moreno (Lydia Riera) are part of the cast.
