New success in sight? After Dark, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the creators of the successful German series, will return to Netflix with a brand new project.

Entitled 1899, this eight-episode series will follow the passengers of a migrant boat leaving the Old Continent for New York. Coming from different European countries, they share the same hopes and dreams for the future, but their journey takes an unexpected turn when they come across another migrant ship that has been missing for several months. What they find on board will suddenly transform their adventure towards the promised land into a terrible nightmare and reveal the dark secrets of each passenger’s past.

A synopsis that makes you want to see more. A feeling confirmed by the first enigmatic trailer, rythmed by voice-overs and a worrying music.

As for the casting, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar wanted to be consistent and therefore decided to choose an international cast, including actors and actresses from Germany, Spain, Poland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium and France.

The following are expected to appear in the credits: Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands), Aneurin Barnard (The White Queen), Andreas Pietschmann (Dark), Miguel Bernardeau (Elite), Maciej Musial (The Witcher), Anton Lesser (Game Of Thrones), Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (The Rain), Rosalie Craig (Truth Seeker), Clara Rosager (The Rain), Maria Erwolter (The Ritual), Yann Gael (Sakho & Mangane), Mathilde Ollivier (Overlord), José Pimentão (Valor da Vida), Isabella Wei, Gabby Wong (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jonas Bloquet (Germinal), Fflyn Edwards (The Snow Spider) and Alexandre Willaume (The Last Kingdom).
